NEWS Microsoft's internet service will become the main provider for Qwest Communications' broadband and residential dial-up customers following a partnership between the two companies. In a statement, Qwest said the service would be available to more than 12 million customers in 14 Western states. James A. Smith, executive vice president of consumer marketing at Qwest, said customers will see a number of benefits from the joint venture, such as additional mailboxes, increased storage for web pages and access to email via the web. Ted Kummert, vice president of the subscription software division at MSN, said the alliance takes MSN a step further to becoming the world's "premier broadband solution provider". The new services are to be called MSN Internet Access and MSN Broadband, both powered by Qwest.
