Amazon faces lawsuit in dot-biz squabble

You can't sue us, we're above the law, says NeuLevel...

NEWS NeuLevel, the US-based registrar in charge of overseeing the dot-biz domain name, has filed a lawsuit against Amazon.com after the e-tailer claimed the registration process violated US federal law. Amazon last week threatened to sue NeuLevel unless the registration process was changed to guarantee trademark holders the right to their trademark domain name, and to forbid multiple applications for each domain name. Currently, trademark holders can apply for a domain name during a pre-registration period but must compete against applications from non-trademark holders. NeuLevel has filed with a Virginia court and is seeking protection from potential lawsuits, claiming its contractual obligations to Icann are not subject to federal law. Last week, trademark holders made similar complaints against the registrar in charge of the dot-info domain name.
