Jeff Bezos brought to book by anti-Amazon show

Ex-employee dishes the dirt: Bezos rues putting in for his collection (probably)...

NEWS A former Amazon.com employee has hit out at the e-tail giant with a one-man show called 21 Dog Years: Doing Time @ Amazon.com in which he details his time working for the internet pioneer. Mike Daisey, who began his time at Amazon.com in the call centre and admits to being in awe of founder Jeff Bezos at the time, describes how employees are forced to sit in the dark while their performance is meticulously measured in terms of how many phone calls they field. Daisey recalls how he managed to earn promotion on account of his prolific phone record - doubtless boosted to impressive levels by the fact that he would just pick up the phone and hang up immediately, thus recording massive number of answered calls for very little effort. Daisey, who according to a report in The Times, amassed nearly $3m worth of share options during his time with the company, did some of his best work in the business development department. According to Daisey this apparently involved sitting in a room with one other person and promising to link to their site if they returned the favour before leaving for a long weekend. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com, requires all departing staff to sign a gagging order. Needless to say, Daisey did not put pen to paper on any such agreement when leaving the company.
