Sony goes for Google

Japanese giant simplifies customer searches...

NEWS Japanese electronics giant Sony has turned to Google to help its customers find their way around its websites. Google yesterday announced that it had signed a licensing deal for an undisclosed amount with the Japanese company. The search engine company already has similar deals with Cisco and US retail giant Proctor & Gamble. Customers will be able to search the Sony web pages for information and products and the search will be limited to Sony's net. The increased size and complexity of company websites has provided a growing market for search engine companies such as Google and Inktomi. Many large corporate sites contain almost as many pages as the whole of the web did in 1996. Early this year, Google struck deals with DoCoMo and Vodafone to extend its search engine to wireless and desktop devices.
