Amazon red-faced after Windows XP blunder

Whoops, it's done it again...

NEWS E-tailer Amazon.com has once again jumped the gun with Windows XP by selling pre-order copies on its website by mistake. For a short time yesterday, Amazon.com offered copies of Windows XP Professional Edition for $299, or $199 as an upgrade. It quickly pulled the offer when the mistake was realised. An Amazon.com spokesman later admitted the error, which follows a similar mistake made by the company in July. The operating system is not scheduled for release until 25 October. As reported elsewhere on silicon.com, Microsoft today released the XP code to PC manufacturers. It also revealed XP's pricing, which confirmed Amazon's indiscretions. For related news see:
