US crisis: silicon.com readers respond

A selection of the emails we've received today...

NEWS The US has great responsibility to respond justly to this atrocity. Respond they must, but the fashion in which they do so must not be knee-jerk, despite the scale of the pain and suffering. They have an opportunity to immeasurably improve their standing on the world stage in the wake of these attacks, but if blind revenge takes over chaos will surely ensue.
Only time will tell.
Rob Tracy-Bower I imagine that the entire democratic world is feeling the pain from this terrible incident. My warmest wishes and hopes go out to those personally affected by this tragedy. My feelings of anger and disgust are directed towards those who committed these heinous crimes and to those who 'celebrated' them.
Marie Griffiths Thanks for keeping us up to date. What has been reported is horrendous. It must have been disturbing for you to summarise this. I appreciate your efforts.
Helen Watt "Forget the Impact on business and concentrate on human life"
Remus Brett, lead analyst at Datamonitor In turbulent and frightening times it is vital to remember that the world can be a beautiful place. Nothing will replace the lives lost or lift the grief felt by so many, but if we all take a moment just to be a little kinder to those around us, the world will surely be improved as a result. What happens next is up to us. Rage, prejudice and indifference will lead further down this path. Only kindness, compassion and understanding can avoid further disaster.
