US Crisis: Wall Street to reopen on Monday

Exchange to trade again almost a week after Tuesday's ruin...

NEWS Wall Street will open for business again on Monday at 09:30 (EDT) after the longest break in trading since the First World War. The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), which is located close to the disaster area in Manhattan said it would remain shut on Friday, and test its networks over the weekend. All being well, the exchange would reopen on Monday NYSE chiefs announced. Nasdaq chief Hardwick Simmons told a press conference yesterday: "We will make sure the system is fully tested, or we will not bring it back up." Although the NYSE is just three blocks away from the ruin of the World Trade Center it did not suffer any structural damage from the terrorist attack on Tuesday. Analysts predict a shaky start to trading on Monday although European bourses have steadied after a period of turbulence following Tuesday's events. For related news, see:
