NEWS The Italian government is considering taking the country's fixed line network away from Telecom Italia. The network would be the core of a new company that would be offered to shareholders. Minister Maurizio Gasparri told the media outside the country's parliament building: "We need to discuss it with operators, but it is definitely an objective." Telecom Italia's competitors have complained about the high price of fixed line rental, and this may be a driver to the Italian government's new initiative, according to reports on Reuters. The telco was acquired by a consortium led by Pirlli in June. It is the sole owner of the country's fixed line network and a leading Italian mobile network, TIM.
