Tesco.com on target for a profitable year

Losses may be the last for the UK's grocery giant...

NEWS Tesco has bucked the trend for dot-com doom and gloom by announcing that its online division is doing better than it had hoped. Tesco.com has generated a 77 per cent increase in sales - up to £146m - and said it expects to hit profitability this year, condsiderably earlier than it had orignally hoped. Overall, Tesco.com reported losses of just £3m, blaming the costs of starting up new services, such as its wine retailing business.
