Ma'am in line for voicemail spa'am

Royal household is dragged into 20th century...

NEWS BT has won a contract to install a new phone system in five Royal Palaces, bringing Her Royal Highness such 20th century delights as voicemail and direct dialling. The network will be installed in Buckingham Palace, Sandringham, Balmoral, Holyrood and Windsor Castle. The new system, to be installed by BT Central Government, will make it possible to transfer calls from one royal palace to another. Under the Palace's previous system, calls for the Queen and her family would go through an operator, who would connect them to one of up to 500 extensions in the palaces. If and how her Majesty accesses the internet remains a mystery, however. It's slightly disappointing that the palace didn't opt for a cutting edge all-IP based network with advanced soft phones to help the Queen manage what must be a formidable contact list, while the younger members of the Royal Household enjoy a game of multiplayer Doom on a built-in high speed LAN. Still, at least the Queen's friends will have the hold music to listen to while they await Her Majesty's pleasure. But what will it be? Queen? God save the Queen? Queens of the Stone Age? De La Soul featuring Queen Latifah? Post a reader comment with your suggestion.
