US travel site Biztravel.com has closed shop after blaming last week's events in the US for a slump in sales.

Biztravel has suffered falling demand in recent months, but claimed that the terrorist attacks brought business to a halt.

The group said it had served almost one million customers in its two-year lifetime.

Other travel sites also admit to struggling in the aftermath of the US disaster. Expedia and Orbitz said demand had fallen, while Lastminute shares fell more than 21 per cent today.

Meanwhile, UK travel site ebookers said it had 650 cancellations in the past week, and added that future events remain uncertain.
