UK shoppers snub online grocery stores

But Tesco.com says online shoppers are virtually flocking in...

NEWS UK consumers prefer pushing a trolley around a supermarket than logging on to food shops, with 81 per cent of shoppers turning their backs on online grocery shopping. Almost one third of respondents said concerns about technology put them off shopping online. The survey from the Institute of Grocery Distributors reported that 17 per cent of consumers said they didn't know how to use a computer, and 15 per cent were concerned about secure online payments. One fifth of respondents felt online supermarkets did not offer a wide range of products, with 13 per cent admitting to enjoying the supermarket experience. An equal number of respondents said they did not always know what they wanted before shopping. But Tesco.com said the survey findings did not correlate with its own customer research. In a statement the company said: "The results of this survey have not been experienced by Tesco.com. In fact we're seeing increasing numbers of customers confidently using Tesco.com. The range of products is the same online as customers will find in their local superstore."
