NEWS Software piracy watchdog The Business Software Alliance has hit Claranet and four other businesses for using unlicensed software. The other culprits are video game developer Climax Development, Hussmann Europe Limited, Learoyd Packaging, and Baines & Ernst Financial Management, a debt management company. Five companies have recently settled similar suits from the BSA, including Gloucester City Council, which settled for £12,000, and the Online Travel Corporation, which settled for £40,000. A further 300 cases are still under investigation, according to the BSA, which investigates and pursues piracy and licensing violations on behalf of large software companies such as Microsoft.
