Acer issues further warnings

Fourth quarter not looking too healthy...

NEWS Taiwanese PC manufacturer Acer is expecting to post an operating loss in the fourth quarter as the downturn continues to take its toll on the IT industry. A spokesman for the company said that it had been too optimistic about the expected recovery in the fourth quarter. The recent attacks in the US have compounded already bad market conditions. Acer is expected to report fourth quarter figures of $609m. Previous estimates had put revenues at $780m. The company refused to provide any financial forecast for the first quarter of 2002.
