DoCoMo's 3G bumps up shares

Europe's telcos start the day seeing red...

NEWS DoCoMo shares rose 6.8 per cent today as the Japanese mobile operator debuted the world's first commercial 3G service. Shares levelled off 6.39 per cent up at the close of business in Asia, with the Nikkei jumping two per cent. But European telcos were not so upbeat this morning as markets opened down. France Telecom fell 3.52 per cent, BT edged up 0.55 per cent and Deutsche Telekom fell 2.69 per cent. European markets were also hit by rumours that Siemens and Motorola are to merge their infrastructure business. Siemens rose 0.97 per cent and Motorola was up 0.65 per cent.
