NEWS Lucent has axed 500 jobs in the UK - 20 per cent of its UK workforce. The cuts are part of the 20,000 job losses Lucent announced in July it would be making and will affect staff in offices in London and around the UK. The cuts take the total number of job losses at Lucent this year to over 30,000 as the troubled telecoms firm tries to weather the current storm in the sector.
