AOL Time Warner fends off further investigation

FTC pushes AOL to offer alternative internet access...

By John Oates, 9 October 2001 13:23

NEWS AOL Time Warner has found a third company to offer ISP services over its cable network to satisfy the Federal Trade Commission investigation into its cable network. The third company known as Internet Junction Services will join Earthlink and United Online to offer Time Warner customers DSL over cable services. The FTC feared the merger of AOL and Time Warner would mean customers connected to Time Warner's cable network would only be offered AOL internet access. The regulator demanded the company offer services from at least three other companies. AOL previously secured a deal with High Speed Access, but AOL was left high and dry when High Speed was forced to pull out because of financial problems.
