US attorney general raises security alert

IT and telecoms authorities warned of further terrorist attacks...

NEWS US attorney general John Ashcroft has included the US IT infrastructure in a list of possible targets of further terrorist attacks. In a press conference Ashcroft said IT and telecoms authorities had been put on the highest state of alert following the commencement of US air strikes against Afghanistan. Ashcroft said 27,000 corporate security managers as well as 18,000 law enforcement agencies had been warned of the increased state of alert. The warning came as part of a wider announcement about a greater state of readiness for much of the US' critical infrastructure.
