Vodafone to axe 1,000 management jobs

Acquisitions lead to too many staff...

NEWS Vodafone is set to chop 1,000 middle management jobs before the announcement of its first-half earnings. The cuts are expected before the announcement of the telco's first-half results as the company streamlines in the aftermath of acquisitions. Vodafone's workforce has risen dramatically by 30,000 in recent months through the acquisitions of Mannesmann AG form Germany, Airtel SA form Spain and a fat stake in Japan Telecom and its wireless division, J-phone. Employee levels are now at around 57,000 with over 80 per cent working outside the UK, according to the Guardian, which did not cite sources. A company spokesman refused to comment on the losses.
