Amazon UK and Germany first to break even

With Christmas coming surely it can only get better for e-tailers...

NEWS Ecommerce pioneer Amazon has followed yesterday's positive results (see: http://www.silicon.com/a48516 ) with news that it is likely to break even in Germany and the UK this quarter. The announcement, which means the divisions would become the first in the Amazon stable to break even, is likely to provide a welcome boost for the entire e-tail sector as it prepares for the busy Christmas period. The importance off European success was supported by claims from the company that it expects its operations outside the US, in France, Germany, Japan and the UK, to account for half its total sales in the future - compared to less than a quarter now.
