NEWS BTopenworld (BTO) has signed a deal with satellite technology provider Gilat for the provision of equipment and wholesale services for its recently launched satellite service for remote areas in the UK not reached by cable. The agreement replaces a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two companies that was signed in July this year. Provisionally available to those in remote locations throughout Scotland and Ireland, the BT satellite service was launched with 2000 Gilat Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) satellite receptors. VSATs are little fixed aerials that operate with 40Mbps downstream and 76.8Kbps upstream.
