Pop website hasn't popped-off yet

Buyers queue to save it from the grave...

NEWS Interactive youth marketing website Worldpop may have fallen into the administrators' hands but the end is far from nigh as buyers queue up to flood it with cash. The beleaguered website, launched by former Radio One DJ Peter Powell, will carry on business as usual until a further funding or even a buyer is found. Grant Thornton - the company brought in to handle the bankruptcy proceedings - claims the Worldpop only needs a £1m cash boost to get it back on its feet and that 20 potential buyers have already approached it regarding a possible buyout. Worldpop last year reported revenues of £2.1m and is on track to be profitable by 2002, according to Grant Thornton. The company, which targets 16 to 35 year-olds, was one of the first commercial sponsors for Radio One's Top 40.
