ITV cosies up to Sky

Finally resolves year-long dispute...

By John Oates, 22 November 2001 08:00

NEWS Sky digital viewers were able to watch ITV1 last night for the first time through their set-top boxes. Sky will now carry ITV1 and 2 to its 5.5 million digital subscribers. The dispute worried advertisers who feared that people were not bothering to switch off their digital systems in order to watch ITV through a normal aerial. ITV will pay BskyB £17m a year for "conditional access", according to the Guardian. Murdoch originally wanted £20m to distribute the channel.
