Safeway scraps online service

Cash to be spent on sprucing up high street stores instead...

NEWS Supermarket chain Safeway has closed down its online shopping service in the UK and diverted the cash to refurbishing its high street stores. The company - which is half way through a store refurbishment programme - said the cash required to further develop its online division would be better spent on the core business. The online store began trading in April this year and Safeway last week said pre-tax profit had jumped eight per cent in the six months since it opened the site.
