UK offering most expensive broadband

Get yourselves to Sweden...

NEWS DSL internet access is still more expensive in the UK than the US and other western European countries, but dial-up and cable modem access prices are on par, according to Oftel. A report out today from the telco watchdog found prices for both business and residential narrowband access compared favourably with prices in France, Germany, Sweden and the US - but UK DSL prices were the highest. The report surveyed the prices of dial-up, cable modem and DSL access. The UK was one of the cheapest countries for residential broadband access - only Sweden was cheaper. But UK business users on metered dial-up packages paid more than customers in any of the other countries. The report also found that since December 2000 the number of UK cable modem users has increased by over 500 per cent and DSL users are up over 400 per cent.
