NEWS Cable & Wireless is going acquisition crazy with the purchase of PSINet Japan for a measly £7.2m just one week after it snapped up web hosting firm Exodus. The company is buying anything that fits into its new focus on internet protocol customers as it bows under pressure from investors to spend. PSINet Japan will provide the organisation with IP connectivity, a data centre in Tokyo plus a few thousand corporate customers. Henry Harrison, senior consultant at IT consultancy Schema, said the company had already had to return £1.5bn to investors for not spending fast enough. Harrison said: "Cable & Wireless is the only telco with money at the moment. I expect to see a lot more purchases coming up. "The question is whether the company be able to glue all the pieces together to create a coherent strategy."
