NEWS Hutchison 3G has signed a deal with mmO2, the company formerly known as BT Cellnet, to allow it to use the BT network. Hutchison is planning to launch a 3G mobile phone network in September 2002, but at launch the coverage will be very restricted and it may never extend across large parts of the UK. This deal will allow Hutchison subscribers to use their phones for voice and text message services on mmO2's second generation mobile phone network, which covers 99 per cent of the UK population. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
