NEWS The row over mobile phone tariffs looks set to end up in a Competition Commission inquiry after Oftel and the wireless operators again failed to resolve their differences. Oftel's director general, Dave Edmonds, has failed to get operators to agree to his proposals to reduce call costs to mobile phones, leaving him the choice of dropping his plans or calling in the Competition Commission. According to a report in the Financial Times, he has how decided to take the latter course. Oftel's concerns revolve around the cost of calling mobile phones from rival networks or fixed lines. It claims that these costs have not come down as much as they should have done with open competition.
