Internet bride takes precautions

Hammond checks out dubious bidders...

By Heather McLean, 14 January 2002 12:00

NEWS Would-be internet wife Kay Hammond has employed a lawyer to check the financial assets of people bidding to marry her. The 24-year-old woman aims to sell her hand in marriage to the highest bidder. On Hammond's last attempt to sell herself on QXL.com, a fake bid of £1bn took first place. The bid was disqualified and the entire procedure had to be repeated. Hammond has also adjusted the rules of play. Now bidders must submit a personal email to her as well as submit to the lawyer's scrutiny. Last week a male Scandinavian student put himself up for sale on QXL.com.
