Upstart website makes big claims

Sneers at bigger boys like it's 1999

NEWS An electrical goods e-tailer launched just six weeks ago is already claiming more orders than the combined sites of retail giant Dixons Group. 24-7electrical.co.uk claims weekly sales of £500 000, against just £344 000 a week brought in last year by Currys, Dixons, PC World and the Link combined. Simon Richards, chief executive of 24-7, told the Independent on Sunday: "All the other high street retailers, who have been on the web for more than a year, are doing less business than us." Richards predicts sales of £50m for this year. 24-7 claims to deliver all purchases within 48 hours. The site runs on technology salvaged from boo.com by Dan Wagner. In November, a Which? report found that Dixons' online performance was particularly poor, with just 16 per cent of respondents to a survey saying they were happy with the company's customer service. This compared unfavourably with Amazon, which notched-up 69 per cent satisfaction. In terms of delivery, Dixons also performed poorly, with just 45 per cent of people feeling satisfied with the service they received. Again, Amazon gained top ranking with 77 per cent.
