NEWS Network equipment manufacturer 3Com is cutting another 500 jobs in an attempt to get itself out of the red. The company lost $47m in its last quarter and shed more than 6,000 jobs during 2001. However, in November 2001, 3Com CEO Bruce Claflin insisted the company was heading for profitability by the middle of 2002. This week's job cuts represent around nine per cent of the company's remaining workforce. 3Com also said it is going through a restructuring exercise that will see its central office offload some operations to its three operating units.
