Ecommerce operation to be merged into Johnlewis.com...

NEWS High-street retail giant John Lewis is closing down Buy.com, ecommerce business it bought last year, following strong sales on its own website. Buy.com will be merged into Johnlewis.com as a specialist technology division. The company said it hopes to lure Buy.com's 200,000 will move over to its site. John Lewis said it was no longer viable to run both businesses simultaneously. The company bought Buy.com's UK operations last February in an attempt to bolster its ecommerce offering. The automatic redirection of traffic from Buy.com to Johnlewis.com will begin in March, the FT reports.
