Freeserve warns on prices

Internet access - little ISPs = higher prices

By John Oates, 28 January 2002 07:30

NEWS Prices for internet access are likely to increase in Europe this year as the big players consolidate their position and push up prices. John Pluthero, chief executive of Freeserve, told the Financial Times: "We are looking at pricing. We have not made a decision yet but I think that all the pricing pressure is in the market is upwards. I would be surprised if there were not price rises from a lot of players this year." Pluthero also believes BT will improve the rollout of broadband internet access and prices for this will fall. Wanadoo, the French owner of Freeserve, is pushing to hit profitability this year.
