BT boss promises to slash broadband prices

New broom goes straight to the muckiest bit

NEWS BT is expected to announce dramatic plans to cut broadband fees by half later this week. Incoming CEO Ben Verwaayen will pledge to slash wholesale broadband charges in his inaugural speech this week, according to a report in the Sunday Telegraph. The move is likely to be seen as an attempt to brighten BT's reputation over the unbundling of its local loop to its competitors. So far, only 150,000 broadband subscriptions have been taken up in the UK, compared to two million in Germany.
