Cable & Wireless warning could mean end for CEO

His job's on the line...

NEWS Cable and Wireless (C&W) will next month admit that it may miss its break even target for C&W Global - its biggest business unit. CEO Graham Wallace told investors last year that the unit would be in the black by March 2004 and according to the Independent on Sunday, this latest warning could spark calls for his resignation. The company's failure to deliver on its promise is one of many indications of the dire state the telecoms industry is currently in. It follows the demise of US phone group Global Crossing which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week.
