Ad man mixes his metaphors but message is clear...

NEWS Martin Sorrell, the UK's most influential ad man and chief executive of advertising giant WPP, said he saw neither "blue sky" nor "green shoots" in the troubled sector. Sorrell told an audience at the World Economic Forum in New York: "We see no blue sky ... I've seen no green shoots. Nothing tells me the global economy is improving. I think it's going to be a fairly modest recovery but I don't see any sign of it yet." His comments will disappoint those hoping for an upturn in the world advertising market which went in decline during 2001. Internet advertising in the UK enjoyed a bright start to last year, rising 42 per cent from £64.2m to £90.2m according to the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB). However, along with the rest of the advertising market it suffered a reversal in the final six months of the year.
