Headline Alert to charge subscription fee

Sign of the times...

NEWS Headline Alert, the email service that brings all the daily newspaper headlines to your inbox, has decided to charge users a subscription fee. Today the service sent out a blanket email to all subscribers requesting a £49 fee for a six-month subscription. However, the service currently only has 700 subscribers and its publisher Ken Young has admitted there has been some fallout since it began piloting its charging scheme last month. Young said: "Any kind of online service has to break even and make a profit." Young added certain analysis and media companies had expressed an interest in receiving a tailor-made service, which could become the mainstay of Headline Alert's business.
