2002 proving hostile to IPOs

Two companies fancy their chances, but they're in the minority...

NEWS Two companies are set to IPO this week in the US, bringing the total number of new issues to eight for the year. Video games firm GameStop and internet payment firm PayPal are set to brave the IPO waters in what is proving to be the slowest start to the year in terms of flotations for more than 20 years. By the same time last year there had been 12 new issues. PayPal hopes to raise $75.6m upon flotation, while GameStop, a unit of US book giant Barnes & Noble, has its sights set on $343m.
