NEWS UK internet usage is increasing at a rate of almost a fifth each month. Nielsen NetRatings found that the number of UK surfers increased by 22 per cent in January - largely due to first time users. Nielsen analyst David Cay said: "We always see a big jump in January." Cay said PCs received as Christmas presents are put into action in the first month of the year, boosting the January surfing figures. The new surfers have helped to bring the UK online population to over 17 million. People are also spending around 20 per cent more time online than they did in December.
