Google offers 'bid for placing' web searches

Want to appear higher on the search results... then cough up...

NEWS Google is offering websites the chance to bid for a higher placing on its results pages - continuing the drive by portals and search engines to create new revenue streams. A search tool, devoted to advertisers, will return results in the order of how much they pay for their listing, rather than simply their relevance to your search criteria. The system will allow sites to increase their bids as they vie to remain at the top of the list or at least on the first page of results. Google will also monitor how many users click on links and will factor this into the ranking.
