NEWS Information that is paid for and received in electronic form should not be treated the same as printed information and should be exempt from the highest rates of value added tax (VAT). That's the view of Anglo-Dutch publishers, Reed Elsevier. Reed believes the VAT rules are an anomaly, reports the FT. However, under current European Union legislation electronic information cannot by zero-rated. Reed claims it took £1bn worth of sales for electronic information last year.
