Web use down, productivity up

Internet goes from "novelty to utility"...

NEWS Internet use in the US is down in terms of hours and minutes spent online but that shortened time span is being used more productively, a new survey has concluded. The Pew Internet and America Life Project - which tracks 1,501 web users - found that the average session time had fallen from 90 minutes to 83 minutes. However, Lee Rainie, director of the Pew Project told Reuters the survey also demonstrated that people were now less likely to browse and more likely to use the net while working at home and for personal finance. "The internet has gone from a novelty to a utility for many Americans," Rainie said.
