Do file sharers know just what they are sharing?

Morpheus follows users around the web...

By Will Sturgeon, 20 March 2002 08:30

NEWS Screamcast Networks, the company behind file sharing software Morpheus, has admitted to tracking its users online to gain a better understanding of their surfing habits. The company has installed a browser add-on which sends Morpheus users on a detour whenever they try to access a number of major e-tail sites - including online auction house eBay. So, before the user can get on eBay and start bidding for whatever lot they are after they are passed briefly through a data capture page on servers run by a number of marketing companies. However, the company claims it is not collecting any personal information, but merely collating data on general trends.
