Travelocity scoops last minute site for $43m

Is it enough to topple Expedia?...

NEWS Travelocity will pay $43m for last minute travel website Site59.com. According to reports on US newswires, Travelocity will use Site509.com's merchant-model inventory system to take on the number one player in the market, Expedia. Travelocity itself is at the centre of a takeover bid by Sabre in a deal worth $28 per share. However, analysts warned Site59.com will not solve all Travelocity's problems although the transaction does represent a step in the right direction for the company.
