Telewest stunt derided by BT

"They took a picture and legged it," says BT, muscles rippling

NEWS Telewest has attempted to capitalise on a ruling that BT is not supplying unlimited voice calls, as advertised, by turning up at BT's Newgate Street headquarters and unveiling a dictionary definition of the word 'unlimited'. However, the stunt has been brushed aside by BT's public relations department, which told this morning's Telegraph that its cable network competitor - posing with a liveried Telewest Broadband Smart car and actors - only hung around for a minute or two. "They just took a picture and legged it. It was more Telewet than Telewest," a BT spokesman is quoted as saying. Telewest's action quickly followed a ruling by the Advertising Standards Authority that BT had misled customers in a piece of direct marketing. Telewest Broadband does offer its customers an all-you-can-eat voice service for local national calls for £25 per month inclusive of tax whereas BT's offer has been limited to evenings and weekends.
