BT boosts broadband availability

Opens up 100 more exchanges...

NEWS BT has announced that another 100 exchanges are to be DSL-enabled by the end of May, giving two-thirds of UK households broadband access to the internet. Another 500 exchanges are under review for a similar upgrade. BT currently has 1,010 exchanges enabled for DSL and has promised to add extra capacity to those exchanges to help it reach a target of five million homes with DSL connections. The news came as BT announced a major review putting broadband at the heart of its future strategy. On 26 February, BT CEO Ben Verwaayen announced a cut in the price of wholesale DSL, which has seen a boost in demand. BT is now connecting 10,000 customers per week.
