Out today - the new BT!

But just what will be in it?

NEWS Ben Verwaayen, the recently appointed chief executive of BT, will today unveil his company's latest strategy. The imminent announcement sparked off frenzied speculation over the weekend as the newspapers all claimed to have the inside story. As we await the official line from Verwaayen and his team, here's what the papers have been saying: Independent on Sunday
"Unite with Ignite to save cash, says BT's new boss - Ben Verwaayen, BT's new chief executive, will tomorrow exorcise the ghosts of the previous regime with a strategy aimed at welding the group's businesses closer together ... [He] is expected to end the two-year programme of spin-offs that left BT with four business units - Retail, Wholesale, Ignite and Openworld ... [He] will say BT no longer considers itself a global player and will focus on its domestic market." The Sunday Telegraph
"Verwaayen culls BT hierarchy - Ben Verwaayen, BT's new chief executive, has swept away the group's powerful 16-strong executive committee which ran the company in an attempt to recharge the business and speed up its moribund decision-making process." The Observer
"BT Group, which demerged its mobile phone arm last year, will tomorrow announce that it is to re-enter the wireless telephony market. As part of his first strategy presentation to the City, new BT boss Ben Verwaayen will announce his company is to become an 'enhanced service provider'. An ESP uses other mobile phone companies' infrastructure, billing and customer support services to offer its own branded network. BT will look to offer the service to corporate customers." The Sunday Times
"C&W calls for break-up of BT - Cable and Wireless wants BT's network business spun off because it thinks cumbersome and backward-looking regulation has repeatedly failed to ensure competition and only separation would allow competition with BT Retail on an equal footing." The Times
"BT will be forced to announce a 'robust defence of its decision to remain in continental Europe today ... Some analysts, however, would prefer BT to quit the European network business of Ignite, which serves big corporate telecoms customers, and reinvest the funds in the UK." We'll have news on the real BT strategy as it breaks...
