Email gaffe blows cover of Global Crossing bidders

How long after they hit 'send' did they notice just what they'd done?

NEWS An email gaffe by Global Crossing's lawyers has leaked the names of 50 companies who have expressed an interest in bidding for the bankrupt telco. The law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges sent an email to all 50 firms, who had signed a confidentiality agreement, including details of the bidding procedure. However, it failed to disguise the email addresses of all the recipients by using the 'bcc' function - instead leaving the intended recipients clear for all to see. According to the New York Times BT Group, Credit Suisse First Boston, Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica and Verizon were all included on the email. Though their inclusion is no evidence of any firm intention to bid for Global Crossing it is an embarrassing twist in the protracted search for a buyer for Global Crossing.
