Game Group consoles itself with PlayStation success

NEWS Computer games seller The Game Group has doubled its annual profits after new machines from Sony and Nintendo boosted sales. Pre-tax profit, excluding goodwill and amortisation charges, jumped to £25.6m in the year ending 31 January - up from £13m a year earlier Revenue jumped 48 per cent on the previous year to £ 453.8m. The company, formerly known as Electronics Boutique, operates 380 stores in the UK, Ireland and Europe. The company said PlayStation 2 and Gameboy Advance - released last year - had resurged interest in computer games. Shares in the group were down 4.52 per cent to 142p by 09:55(BST).
