FT.com to start charging

There won't be many free papers left in the online world soon...

NEWS The Financial Times has announced it is to start charging for online content on its FT.com website. Among a raft of changes to the service, which will also include a redesign, FT.com will introduce £75 annual subscriptions for readers looking to access archived material and a number of its regular columns as well as news pages dedicated to specific industries. The rest of the site's daily content will still be freely available - though how much that will constitute once the paid-for content has been siphoned-off is unclear. The move follows a growing trend within the UK newspaper industry, started by The Times which began charging users to do its crossword last year.
